Despite the discrepancy in the age, this is likely the right James Exton. He is not listed anywhere on the 1881 census, for example, and there is no other James Exton known to have been born around the right time. A possible explanation of the age difference may be that, in transcribing the info into the indexes, the handwritten 70 was read erroneously as 76.
